Question 7

Question 6

Question 6: What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Use of technology:

-Scanned text and images:
At the beginning of this process I had never used a scanner to scan paper documents which is very useful when adding them to your blog in a digital format. Specifically I used this new feature when adding my contents, front cover and DPS drawn plans to my blog. To the left is an example of my drawn paper plans which were then posted to my blog through scanning. The picture is much clearer and shows a lot more detail than a photograph. This was a very easy process and I enjoyed using it as one of my skills is in drawing and putting my ideas down on paper in a creative way. Therefore, it was useful that I could put this on my blog.

-Screen grabs:
Screen grabs are useful ways of capturing small parts of a larger image to show the small segment in closer detail and draw attention to the place which you are describing. This was useful when analyzing magazines; for example, I was able to  take a Q magazine and use CMND, shift and 4, the select the area that I wanted to describe in detail. The Q magazine which featured Ed Sheeran included a puff with an incentive to buy.

-Slideshare:
Before the beginning of this media course I was able to make a slideshow on power point, however during the analysis phase of the course which allowed me to research other magazines, required me to use other technology. Therefore when choosing to use power point I used slide share to embed to upload my slideshows and embed them into my blog. To the left is an example of an embedded power point on my blog.

-Prezi:
Another form of technology that I have used to analyze magazines is a Prezi. This is a very useful piece of software which allows me to place text, images, symbols and colour into a bubble to create an interesting way of displaying my work. The technology allowed me to use as many individual bubbles as I recquired so that the end result would not be an essay but instead a sequence of interactive steps.

-Word cloud:
The word cloud that I made allowed me to add a range of words which I thought related to classical music. the website then generated the word cloud in a random shape, size and order. I was then allowed to to pick the colour scheme which I thought was most appropriate to the classical music genre. This process was extremely quick and easy because the wordley site formulated the word cloud for me.This was also useful to get all of my ideas into one place.

-Emaze:
I have also used 'emaze', as another form of technology to present my evaluation questions onto. I enjoyed using this piece of technology because it is a very creative and different way of displaying information, similar to a power point however this is a different form of technology that I am now able to use.

I have also used social media accounts, to complete my target audience research:

I transferred my target audience research question to Facebook, used the copy and paste function and then sent them to as many contacts I had with the age range of 16-21 (target audience). This was extremely successfully and allowed me to reach young people who spend an extended amount of time on forms of social media who I may not have been able to contact and get their opinions otherwise. The Image to the left is taken from Facebook and shows a friend answering my questions through typing of the answers in their reply.

I also sent some of the target audience questions to my contacts on IMessage which also allows me to send constant messages to my friends for free. Therefore this method was also extremely quick and easy. An example of the answers is shown to the left.

Throughout the course I have also learnt how to use blogger (another form of social media):

I first signed in with blogger by using my Gmail account and this is the way that I now sign in on a daily basis to compete my tasks which are all displayed through the technology which is 'blogger' From the point show to the left I can sign in, edit my blog or create a new post. Although I had never used blogger before, it is very simple and easy to use.

The bar above shows every main function that you are enabled to perform when creating a new blog post. (From left to right) you can compose a post using text or add a HTML, this feature is useful when adding prezi's to your blog (software from another site, other than blogger). You can also change the size, style and colour of font and also make the font bold, in italics or underlines. You can also highlight text which is extremely useful when drawing the attention of the reader to a particular part of the text. Links, videos and images can also be added via this bar.

I can also edit, view, share of delete any of my posts, which is show in the image to the left

I have also learned how to backdate posts by simply selected the post of the date i want to change and then selecting the particular month, day and year that I would prefer, this is useful when putting posts in their expected chronological order.

I have also had increased experience with a camera and have been able to take photos that I am extremely proud of and also used a memory card and memory card reader in order to transfer my photos from the camera, to the computer and finally to my blog.

Finally and most importantly I have developed my skills with Adobe elements 11:

The above image shows my skills with Adobe elements 11 in September when the course first began, However I have had to develop my skills in order to create my final classical music magazine (front cover, contents and DPS).

For example, to create this black smudged effect on my DPS I had to use the black rubber effect and just experimented to get the desired effect that I was looking for. I also used the rubber to create the faded effect around the model. As well as this, I have also learned how to successfully text wrap around my model. A range of shapes have also been used on my DPS, I found a much wider range was available when I began to use the software more and became more accustomed to using it. One process I found very difficult and would have definitely not attempted back in September was incorporating the drop capital into my text in the style of a professional magazine. To do this I had to separate my first paragraph of text into two separate layers and fit them round my drop capital in this way. I became more advanced in using the layers to create these effects than I was in September during the preliminary task, These new skills aided me in creating a more aesthetically pleasing magazine.

I also become more advanced in removing the background of shapes that I downloaded from the internet which enabled me to add them to my magazine in a way that looked a lot more neat then it would do if the image did not have a transparent background (example to the left of the violin).

Specific skills on Adobe:

From using Adobe I have learned to add shapes. However, when I first started using Adobe I was proficient in using very simple shapes, after experimenting with the tool I found shapes which were much more suited to the type of magazine that I wanted to create. I used the shape tool shown to the right to select the splatter type shape which became part of my house style (common across all three of my pages). The area that I selected my shape from is shown below, to the left, The finished shape that I placed on my magazine which became a PUFF is displayed below and to the right.

To the left is the select tool. From my frequent use of Adobe I became very familiar with this tool as it is the most common used because it allows you to pick up and move any individual layer on your page. This tool also allows you to increase and decrease the size of any object on screen.

The text tool allows you to create the text you can see on my magazine. Through constant use and practice with Adobe I discovered that by adding layers for each individual word you can have more freedom to move each one around the screen, choosing different sizes, fonts and colours easily for the different words.

The menu shown to the left is where I changed the size of the font, colour and font type, there are many other editing possibilities which I found useful in order to get the very specific look that I wanted for my magazine. Below is an example of two different layers which I used to create a cover line so that I could move each one freely to where I needed it, with ease. However when I had them in the perfect position I decided to lock their positions with the tool shown below to the right.

The tool shown to the left is what is used to create a new layer. I found this most useful when putting the the drop capital which featured in my DPS as shown above.
At first I struggled to successfully integrate the drop capital with my text however I discovered that I could divide my text into two separate layers in order to carefully position them around the capital letter. The first later was the first paragraph all the way down to the end of the drop capital and the second layer was the rest of the text. This way I could fit it in with my text in a professional way. Examples of both layers and the finished DPS featuring the drop capital are shown above.

The smudged effect on my DPS was created using the paint tool, I discovered that there was a range of different styles of brush which would enable me to achieve a specific and desired texture (shown below).

The tool shown to the left allowed me to text wrap.

The image to the left is the example of my finished text wrap.

I manipulated the curve and angle of the text using the options shown to the left. This was an extremely easy tool to use and it allowed me to create something very effective. I love the way the text curves round the violin, it brings both features together and acts as a PUFF which
attracts the attention of the audience.

To the left is the gradient tool, this allows me to creates an effect which goes from light to dark or dark to light. This adds allows me to add interest and depth to my work.

To the left are the different effects that can be applied to your work, I was able to experiment with these but after application to my magazine, realized that although it would create a very unique product, this was too much of a break in convention and many of the existing, very successful magazines currently on the market feature block colours.

To the left is the cutting tool. I used this when I had to use photos which had a white background and place them on another coloured background (the photo that I took of the violin). This tool is very easy to use as you simply click on the main image and the tool draws around it for you. The image is shown to the left displaying the violin with a transparent background which is now able to be placed on the pink banner because the previous white background was edited out by me.
